HTC 10 Gets The Android Oreo Update

Just yesterday we reported that HTC's 2016 flagship HTC 10 had started receiving Android Oreo updates. Apparently, new reports now state that the Taiwanese company has stopped or pulled off the rollout of Android 8.0 Oreo update for the HTC 10. Further, the update which was reportedly released last week through the original RUU package has now been taken down.

If you visit the download page now, you will most probably get the 404 error. Additionally, XDA Developer has reported that the update hasn't been available as an OTA rollout and that users haven't received any push notification for such release.

However, speculations suggest that whoever received the update and were able to download as well as install the RUU package were likely those users who have paid Sunshine S-OFF ( a bootloader unlock/s-off tool). So basically the users extracted the firmware from the RUU and flashed the firmware themselves. While the update caused a bit of confusion on forums, Sunshine S-OFF could cause serious issues with the handset. Besides, there were numerous cases of battery issues reported after installing the latest update.

All in all, HTC has pulled the HTC 10's Oreo RUU download and the update page for unknown reasons, and it doesn't seem like any HTC 10 owners actually received the update over-the-air.

Meanwhile, HTC 10 was originally launched running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The handset was updated to Android 7.0 Nougat in February last year and the Taiwanese manufacturer had originally promised the arrival of the latest Android Oreo update in August last year.

HTC announced the release of the Android Oreo update for the HTC U11 and HTC U Ultra as well but till date, only the HTC U11 has received the update. It was in November 2017. The company is yet to provide a statement regarding the same. And once it does we will update you regarding this case.

Coincidentally, it seems HTC is following the path of Xiaomi who also suspended the Android 8.0 Oreo update rollout for the Mi A1 after some issues emerged publicly. Typically bug issues. The Google Android One smartphone update to Android 8.0 Oreo was rolled out in late December via an over-the-air (OTA) rollout. But the company reportedly pulled the OTA update down.
