Putting a savory twist on a Mardi Gras dessert staple, one eaterie has unveiled a King Cake Burger.
Food Drunk, a food truck based in New Orleans, Louisiana, masterminded the $10 festive hybrid and scores of people have been queuing up to sample the bizarre-looking treat.
Indeed, the juicy stack features an iced bun - sandwiched with brisket and melted cheddar cheese - topped with a mix of purple, green and purple sugar sprinkles.

Its creators say that the bun isn't as sweet as a traditional King Cake - an age-old symbol of Fat Tuesday - and they worked with a local bakery to refine the taste.
'It’s a not your everyday Burger…..Buuuut it is Damn Good!' they exclaim on their Facebook page.

Backing up the claims, one patron said: 'I had mine! It was delicious.'
Another added: 'Just had one the other day and it was absolutely spectacular.'
However, they noted a few strips of bacon could have been added to 'offset the sweet icing.'

The truck's owner, P.J. Haines, said that his team came up the peculiar patty after having 'a few cocktails.'
'[It's] where some of the greatest ideas ever come from,' he exclaimed.
He says that all of the feedback about the meat treat has been very positive, concluding: 'People have described it as like your dessert and your meal at the same time. A perfect combination.'
Other delicacies on the menu at the Food Drunk truck include Duck Fat Fries and Crawfish Mac and Cheese.
